Friday Q&A

Certain foods, like Strawberry Shortcake ice cream bars, and certain smells like wild honeysuckle make me think of summer. Songs can also create an association with a certain season.

What song says "Summer" to you?

Mmmm, summer songs. I don't think I have any that are particularly evocative of summer per se, but there always seems to be a song that gets a lot of airplay that I hook onto each year, often on my summer vacation. And hearing the song always takes me right back to that particularl summer. One year it was Edwin's "Alive". When I hear it, I'm mentally at the lakeshore. Another year it was the Goo Goo Dolls' "Here is Gone". And one year all I heard was Kid Rock's "All Summer Long", but for the longest time I couldn't make up my mind if I loved it or hated it. In the end, I decided to love it, if only for the opening which mashes togeter my beloved Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama".

Anything Beach Boys. I grew up near the beach and we loved to blare BB. I love Atari's Boys of Summer. For my writing, Bryan Adams' song Summer of '69. I'm sure there are more, but I'm waiting for the cable guy to show up and explain why my internet keeps going out in the afternoon.

Norah,
I like Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" as well as "Sweet Home Alabama".

Mary,
The Beach Boys are definitely summerish tunes!

Bob Marley makes me think summer, too!
