Q&A Friday

This Friday, the noodlers would like to discuss book clubs. As always, any writing related question is welcome, so please ask.

Are you a member of a book club? How long has your group been meeting? How do you run your meetings--dinner, then down to business? Feel free to share a fun story about your book club!

We have the most wonderful book discussion group at the library where I work. Most of the members are seniors, all ladies, who love to read and talk about books. They love to eat, too, and the spreads they lay out would make you weak in the knees. When they read Savannah they served low country foods. Anytime they plan a Florida book you can count on all sorts of citrus treats. I led the discussion on Anne Tyler's Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant once, and had visions of baking a Lane Cake, but I knew I could never compete with those great cooks!

On the other hand, our mystery book club likes coffee. Black.

I don't belong to a book club and never have. I think it's wonderful that people get together to talk about books, though. I suspect a book club would choose books I wouldn't want to read anyway!

Does anyone belong to a Romance Readers Book Group?

I, too, love the idea of book clubs. I've been invited to speak at a couple and, like Karen, I've enjoyed the visits and the food ;-).

Diane, I'm also hesitant about reading choices. After years of course assignments, I usually dread stories I'm told I must read. However, I don't think I'd mind reading recommended romances--there's nothing like a great love story :-).

I'm kind of like that too, Terry. I don't get to read all of the books I want to read now, and taking on one that's not on my list makes me a little resentful.

So now, why did I just agree to review books for a new site? I think my marbles are slipping through a hole in the pouch.
